Live together

The definition of live together has changed a lot from time to time. In the very ancient time,
the people who lives in the village on the other side of the mountain is not living with you
because you will not interfere each other-you live your life, he live his life. And then people
live in the same city can be seen as live together; however, although ancient China and
ancient Rome are both super power countries by that time, they have few influence towards
each other. Now, global human resource compete with each other, what happened in America
would result on the other side of earth directly, so all people on earth can be seen as live
together. Since we live together, we should pay more attention to each other in deeper level.
I indeed found a thesis which is very up for me from ASU – Traditional Chinese Visual
Design Elements: Their Applicability in Contemporary Chinese Design
(http://repository.asu.edu/items/18727). It can combine with my back ground and experience
perfectly.
Exploring traditional Chinese visual design elements(color, material and form) and how
people perceive them are the main points of this research. The research methods include
literature review and sampling strategy.
The purpose of the literature review is to review the significant points of existing knowledge
in order to be up to date with the current research that has already been published.
Sampling strategy include a online survey and a group interview. A pilot study was designed
to test the online survey, especially if the artifacts and questions were understandable to the
participants; group interview was divided into two parts, one was composed of Chinese
participants, the other had non-Chinese participants. Each group had five people. The
researcher guided the group in sessions lasting around 40 minutes each.
The thesis also includes a limitation review and a future implication, which is very helpful to
who want to continue and refine this study.
When I was in Chine and when I wanted to design something that concerned traditional
Chinese culture, one problem always confronted me that was can it be accepted by the world?
Now I am in “the world” and it is a very good chance to do some study in that direction.
Also, I think the culture should not only stop at the visual elements-that is superficial. Just
like those Chinese people in American TV program and films, although they wear and speak
like Chinese people but their behavior style is 100 percent American style. The same as in
Chinese movies, those foreigners even speak Chinese when they talk to each other!
